A Day at Work with Ichikawa Junior High School: Bridging Education and Experience

On July 11th, 2025, Brastel had the pleasure of welcoming seven curious and enthusiastic students from Ichikawa Gakuen Ichikawa Junior High School as part of the “A Day at Work” initiative — a collaborative project designed to introduce young minds to the working world.

Throughout the day, the students immersed themselves in a variety of activities at our Tokyo headquarters. The program included a company introduction, hands-on workshops, a conversation with our CEO, and opportunities to interact with staff across different departments. From start to finish, the students engaged with open minds and lots of questions.

Workshops that Sparked Curiosity

Server & System Workshop

Inside our server room—surprisingly chilly! — Students were astonished to learn about the costs and scale of our server setup, including the fact that our cables stretch across ten floors of the building. They were especially impressed by the meticulous wiring and how backup systems are built in to prevent downtime.

Money Transfer Workshop

Through a board game themed around currency exchange, the students explored how Brastel’s international remittance service works. They learned about the daily fluctuation of exchange rates, how money moves from ATMs to the app, and the difference in value between the yen and other currencies. The game was both fun and educational, prompting lots of "aha!" moments.

Basix & Customer Service Workshop

In a simulated customer service session, students tried out IP phone features such as call holding, parking, and even a whispering function used by supervisors to coach operators without customers hearing. Many were surprised to learn that even Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries uses Basix! The experience was interactive, hands-on, and sparked plenty of curiosity.

Advertising Workshop: Creating an Internal Newspaper

In collaboration with the Advertising and Design Department, students created a special edition of Brastel’s internal newspaper using their own reflections from the day. They learned basic layout and editing techniques in Photoshop, and saw how a simple idea turns into a designed, printed piece. This workshop let their creativity shine while giving them a taste of real-world communications and branding.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The students’ feedback reflected how deeply the experience resonated with them:

“Work is challenging but really interesting.”
“Everyone was kind, and we felt comfortable asking anything.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

This program wasn’t just valuable for the students, but it was equally inspiring for us. At Brastel, we believe in building connections between education and the working world. Welcoming young learners and showing them what we do is one way we hope to support the next generation as they discover their paths.

Thank you to the students and teachers of Ichikawa Junior High School for spending the day with us! We hope to cross paths again in the future!
